Hi! I’m swapping out Workout Wednesday for Train Thursday (or Tuesday depending on the week). Why you ask? I’m an athlete and athletes train. Guess what? You’re also an athlete, and I’m asking you to switch your point of view from ‘working’ to training. Whether your training to chase a new half marathon pr, training for a triathlon or training to be a new mom, you get the privilege of doing this. So why call it work when you could be training?!
I recently listened to the Ear Splitz podcast from Coeur Sports where pro triathlete Meredith Kessler talked about how she is so thankful she gets to train and race as well as be a mother. Meredith doesn’t have to swim 50k a week, she gets to swim 50k a week. She doesn’t have to take care of her son or rush home from a training session she gets to rush home and take care of him. I may not be a mom, but I respect and appreciate her honesty, positive outlook and work ethic.
When was the last time you said “ugh I have to go to the gym” or “I have to go for a run “? When was the last time you said “I get to go to run or I get to lift weights“? If you’re struggling to find motivation or a new mom who’s struggling to find the time to fit everything in I urge you to give the episode a listen. Practice changing your mindset towards exercising from work to training. Appreciate what your body is able to give you each day, it may not always feel like it but every training session is a gift.
That being said, today I’m sharing a quick HIIT workout that will torch calories and leave you breathless in just 15 minutes. The best part it requires no equipment and can be done anywhere. Do the following exercises with no rest in between. Repeat 2-3 times for best results.
- 10 burpees
- 30 full situps
- 60 second plank
- 30 bicycle crunches
Did you know bicycle crunches are said to be 248% more effective than standard crunches according to a study by ACE Fitness? I’m not sure how accurate that statistic is but I know my abs hurt for days when I perform them on a regular basis. What’s your favorite way to sweat? At home, the gym or in a class? Let me know in the comments, I’m always looking to try something new!
