Friday Favorites 12/15

Christmas is just 10 days away and Hanukkah is well underway! What are your plans for the holidays? Are you traveling to see family, hosting friends, or hiding under the covers waiting for the madness to pass? Instead of fighting the crowds at the mall, or clicking like crazy on Amazon, why not make a few simple and meaningful gifts for your loved ones this year? This week I’m sharing 5 of my favorite homemade gifts that can be made with things you probably already have on hand.

Coffee Scrub DIY– I love making homemade scrubs! They are simple, smell fantastic and can be tailored to anyones taste. For the coffee lover in your life whip up this simple coffee scrub. Try this lemon kitchen scrub is great for cooks and gardeners. Put a festive spin on it with a candy cane or gingerbread scrub.

Hot Chocolate Mix – Homemade hot chocolate is one of my favorite things to give and receive. There’s something so comforting about a warm mug of cocoa. You can customize it, add fun toppings like crushed candy canes or whip up a batch of homemade marshmallows to go with it. You can use any sugar you have on hand, I love coconut, or  add 1/2 tsp of tumeric for an earthy golden cocoa mix. Raw Cacao powder also works well here.

Instructions: Combine ingredients in a large bowl. Divide into glass jars for gifting. To mix add 2 tbsp of mix to milk of choice, heat and serve.

Date Night Book – There are so many cute templates available on Pinterest that can be printed in seconds. Personalize them for the movie lover, gamer or adventurer in your life. I ended up making an advent calendar for my husband this year instead of buying him a bunch of gifts. Whether its something simple like making dinner together, heading out for a cocktail, movie tickets or a weekend away camping, experiences and time together are often more treasured than material things.

Mason Jar Cookie Mix – Cookies are always a hit during the holidays. This easy mix just needs a few added ingredients to whip up warm cookies in minutes. Switch out the chocolate chips with festive m&m’s candies or white chocolate chips and dried cranberries. There’s even an easy printable recipe to go with it.

Rein-Beer (or soda) – Add googly eyes, pom pom noses and pipe cleaner antlers to their favorite craft beer or soda bottles, for a quick and easy gift for the men in your life. You can tuck some beef jerky, mini pretzels or a gift card in there as well.

Bonus Idea: Make a photo album! In the days of digital everything when was the last time you printed a photo? Moms, Dads and grandparents especially love this thoughtful gift. If you don’t have a photo printer, there are so many places that can turn prints around in a day or two. Pick up a photo album from the store, make your own with card stock or stick them in an old book.
